Not all of us are born with a bump free and perfectly balanced nose.  For that very reason, there are miracle workers such as surgeons who perform nose jobs also known as Rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty is mainly performed to restore a nose to a more proportional shape.  There are two types; a surgical and non – surgical Rhinoplasty.  A surgical Rhinoplasty consists of two techniques an ‘open’ Rhinoplasty and a ‘closed’ Rhinoplasty.   An open Rhinoplasty is performed under local anesthetic (patient is wake) or under general anesthetic (patient is asleep).  It takes 2 – 3 hours and is for major nose reshaping.  Incisions are not made inside the nose, but rather on the vertical strip of skin which connects the nostrils, known as the columella.  The closed Rhinoplasty is for minor reshaping of the nose.  Incisions are made within the nose.

The skin of the nose is separated from the bone and cartilage, which form a somewhat support structure.  The bone and cartilage will be exposed and removed, reshaped or rearranged depending on the patients’ requirements.  The closed Rhinoplasty is primarily done to fix problems caused from previous Rhinoplasty operations.  It’s also done to improve the imbalance of the nose, with other facial features.  The closed Rhinoplasty is almost twice as long as an open Rhinoplasty and is just as expensive.
An average nose job will cost you from $3000 to $ 8000.

For those who fancy a doing nose job whilst taking their lunch break then a non - surgical nose job is for you.  This latest advancement takes only 15 minutes.  It uses injectables such as Botox and other well known fillers.    The non – surgical nose job is mainly to eliminate bumps and bulges on the nose and is completely safe.  After a surgical nose job, you’ll be able to see a difference with days, but the final results will be visible in only 12 months.  Two weeks after the surgery you’ll be able to resume to almost all your normal activities.

During your recovery time, avoid touching and rubbing your nose.  Try to minimize smiling; it causes movement on your nose. Also avoid sneezing and blowing your nose.  To keep your nose clean, your doctor will give you a saline spray.  It’ll be best if you sleep on your back for the first few weeks, to avoid applying pressure on your nose.  The doctor might also have to prescribe steroids for the swelling.  Your doctor might also tell you to use ice and frozen peas on the swelling.

Your diet will exclude chewing gum, to limit facial movements.  No alcohol should be consumed since it makes the blood thin and leads to excessive bleeding. If you wear spectacles, contact lenses will be a much safer option.  For before and after pictures click here.
