Tired of shaving, waxing and tweezing? Do away with unwanted hair permanently! Laser hair treatment can do exactly that for you.
Laser treatments have been around for almost 20 years, but were only introduced to the masses in the early ‘90s. Since then a lot of improvements have been made, from the equipment used to the after care recommendations. The procedure can be done at a skin clinic or in your doctors’ consultation room. Before the treatment a numbing lotion will be applied onto area to be treated. A laser is then used to give off a fine, forceful beam of light, which removes the hair follicles. This forceful beam of light does not have a negative effect on the surrounding skin, it preserves it. The laser hair treatment is not to be mistaken for an electrolysis hair removal treatment.

Minimal discomfort is felt during the procedure, but no medication will be needed for later. Should you feel unbearable pain during the process, do not hesitate to inform your doctor. The treatment usually takes an average of 60 minutes, depending on the target area. The sessions needed are determined by your individual characteristics, which would be hair your colour and size of area to be treated. An additional session can only be performed 12 weeks after the treatment, by then your hair would have had time to regenerate. The treatment cannot be done on suntanned skin.
After the treatment exercising, sun tanning, waxing or the use of a Jacuzzi should be avoided for at least 24 hours. Your doctor will also advise you to cleanse the treated area with a mild soap and might prescribe a lotion or an antibiotic ointment. Healing should be expected a few days after the treatment depending on the laser used. You will be informed of a possible 2nd treatment during a follow up evaluation session with your doctor. |

An average laser hair treatment will cost round about $400. A treatment on small areas like the upper lip would be $50 to $200 and bigger areas like full back will cost you from $500 to $900.
